Mass Attack Racks Up Weekly Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - Following back to back home wins over Vermont and Quinnipiac last weekend, the UMass Hockey team has garnered several UMass and Hockey East Weekly awards. Freshman defenseman Adam Phillips was named the UMass Athlete of the Week as well as the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week following a three-goal week. Senior captain Paul Dainton was named the Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week while the Minutemen were also named the Hockey East Team of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Phillips (Farmington Hills, Mich.) accounted for both game-winning goals in each UMass win during the past week, and had two scores Saturday at Quinnipiac. The 6'6'' blueliner finished the week with a +3 rating, and now has three goals, two assists and a team-best +6 rating in 11 games this season.

Dainton (Iqaluit, Nunavut) was huge in goal for Massachusetts last week, stopping 69 of 72 shots faced, highlighted by a career-high 44 saves against Vermont last Tuesday. Dainton completed the week by posting a 1.50 goals against average and .958 save percentage. So far this season, the senior netminder is 2-3-2 with a 3.00 goals against average and .914 save percentage.

As a team, the Minutemen are unbeaten in their last three games (2-0-1). The UMass defense was pivotal offensively, scoring five of the nine goals scored. The Massachusetts penalty kill was also key in both wins as the team killed of nine of ten penalties assessed to them.

The Mass Attack will faceoff against UMass-Lowell on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 PM at the Mullins Center.
