ANNAPOLIS, Md. - UMass lacrosse All-Americans goalie Doc Schneider and attackman Jeff Zywicki will play for the Major League Lacrosse Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m., on ESPN2 as their Toronto Nationals take on the Denver Outlaws. Schneider played all 60 minutes as the Nationals beat Long Island on Saturday, 14-13. Zywicki scored a goal for the Nats as well.
Schneider made seven saves as he played a complete game with the Nationals for just the second time this season. He was named a 2009 USILA Second-Team All-American this past season after a four-year standout career with the Minutemen. He played in eight regular-season games with Toronto after being the highest-drafted goalie in the 2009 MLL Draft.
Zywicki, who finished his career at UMass with an All-American season in 2005, scored the 12th goal to tie Saturday's game in the fourth quarter. In his fourth MLL season, Zywicki had 19 goals and 14 assists for 33 points in the regular-season. Zywicki played each of the last two seasons with the Rochester Rattlers -- who moved to Toronto for this season -- and scored 31 goals in each season. Last year the Rattlers captured the MLL Championship with Zywicki scoring seven goals in the postseason.
Denver has a connection to UMass as assistant coach Bill Edell lettered for the Minutemen in the 1990s.
