AMHERST, Mass. - Following a five-point weekend in the two-game sweep of Maine, sophomore winger James Marcou has been named the Reebok Hockey East Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. The Minutemen jumped to a tie for sixth-place in the league standings and clinched a spot in the 2009 Hockey East Play-Offs with a pair of 4-3 wins over the Black Bears this past Friday and Saturday.

Marcou's play was pivotal in the key weekend for the Minutemen as he had three assists in Friday's win and a goal and an assist in Saturday's win. On Friday, Marcou set up each of the first three goals (all power plays), while on Saturday, he set up the first goal and scored UMass third.

Over the last four games, Marcou has nine points (3g, 6a) and now has 11 multi-point games for the season. He now has 72 career points in 68 games.

Marcou now ranks 2nd overall in Hockey East for points (11-29-40) and leads the league in assists. With the five-point weekend, he moved into 6th nationally in points and third in assists.

This weekend will be a match-up of Hockey East's Sophomore Sensations as the Minutemen face No. 1 Boston University in a home-and-home series. Marcou sits just one point behind Colin Wilson of Boston University who leads the league in overall scoring. Friday's game will be at the Mullins Center and will be televised live on NESN starting at 7:30 PM, while Saturday's game will be at Agganis Arena (8 PM). The Terriers bring a nation's best 12-game unbeaten streak into the series, while the Minutemen have won three straight.

UMass won the previous meeting this season 5-1 at the Mullins Center when Boston University was also ranked No. 1 nationally.
