Dainton Named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass Hockey junior goaltender Paul Dainton has been named the Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by Hockey East on Monday. Dainton made 33 saves against Merrimack to pace the Minutemen to a 4-1 win on Saturday. Dainton is now 8-5-0 this season heading into the second half of the year.

Saturday marked the second straight game, and sixth time this season, that Dainton has made at least 30 saves. His goals against average now stands at 2.61 while his save percentage is .922, which ranks 16th nationally and second in the conference. Dainton has also allowed two or fewer goals in seven games this season.

In 74 career games Dainton has started 71 times, posting a 2.53 goals against average along with a .914 save percentage. Dainton and the Mass Attack will be back in action on December 29 when the Minutemen will compete in the UConn Tournament. UMass will faceoff with Union in the semifinals at 4 PM.
