James Marcou Named UMass Athlete Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Junior forward James Marcou has been named UMass Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Marcou scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Yale last Thursday in New Haven, Conn. The #11 UMass hockey team will next take on #17 Vermont on Tuesday in Burlington.
Marcou will be honored at Wednesday's UMass Sport Luncheon to be held in Room 1009 of the Campus Center. The Luncheon begins at noon and this week's speakers include hockey coach Don "Toot" Cahoon and Jeff Smith, Associate Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer.
Marcou has tied for fourth in UMass history with 95 points, and took sole possession of first place in career assists (68) with an assist against Yale.
In the second period, Marcou recorded the assist on a Casey Wellman 5-3 power play goal, putting UMass ahead 2-1. After regulation with the game tied 3-3, Marcou knocked in the game-winner with 1:01 left in overtime, marking his fifth multi-point game of the season.
Marcou was previously named Hockey East Player of the Month as well as the runner-up in voting for the HCA Player of the Month for October. He has four goals and 12 assists this season.
