AMHERST, Mass. - Junior All-American James Marcou was the runner-up for National Player of the Month for October as announced by the Hockey Commissioner's Association on November 6. The creative winger currently ranks second in conference points in Hockey East with two goals and five assists in four games. He also added one goal and five assists in three non-conference games to bring his total to three goals and 10 assists through seven games. Nationally, he ranks third in points per game (1.86), first in assists and sixth in total points.

The honor was awarded to junior goaltender Marc Cheverie of the University of Denver. He posted a 4-0-0 record with a .959 save percentage and a 1.27 goals-against average for the No. 4 Pioneers. Derek Grant of Michigan State University was named the HCA National Rookie of the Month. He recorded 10 points on four goals and six assists in six games.

In 82 career games, Marcou has 92 points on 26 goals and 66 assists. He ranks 14th on UMass' all-time scoring list. He is tied for fifth in career assists and 34th in career goals.

Marcou and the rest of the Minutemen will look to continue their strong play as they host conference rival New Hampshire Friday and Saturday at the Mullins Center. Both games are scheduled for 7 PM.
