BOSTON, Mass. - UMass lacrosse alum Paul Manesis ('08) was selected by the Boston Blazers in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft on Friday, Sept. 12. The defensive midfielder, who was picked in the fifth round (56th overall), will reunite with former Minutemen standouts Sean Morris ('06) and Jack Reid ('06) in Boston's inaugural season at the TD Banknorth Garden. The Blazers mark the second professional Boston team to select Manesis, the other being Major League Lacrosse's Cannons who drafted him in the third round (26th overall) in May.
Manesis was a stabilizing force at midfield throughout his stellar four-year career. A 2008 captain, he was part of the memorable 2006 squad who made the NCAA Championship Game after defeating Cornell, Hofstra, and Maryland. The New Canaan, Conn. native scored a season-high two goals in his senior campaign while continuing his stellar play at the defensive end of the field.
