Amherst, Mass. - Men's lacrosse's Sean Krygier and softball's Lauren Proctor were named the Spring Scholar-Athletes of the season. Krygier and Proctor received plaques at the weekly sports luncheon at the Campus Center on Wednesday commemorating their success on the field and in the classroom.
Krygier, a 3.6 student majoring in Sport Managament and Marketing, was presented for the award by Todd Crosset, a professor in Sport Management, and his coach, Greg Cannella. Krygier has been a three-year starter at close defense for the Minutemen. He started the last 46 games, including all 14 this season. He finished his career with 69 ground balls and 38 caused turnovers. He helped anchor UMass' defense, which allowed just 8.5 goals per game.
Proctor, a 3.7 student majoring in Journalism and Spanish, was presented for the award by Katja Hahn d'Errico, a professor in the School of Education, and her coach, Elaine Sortino. Proctor has been a four-year starter for the Minutewomen in leftfield, where she has hit better than .300 all four seasons. She was named to the All-Conference and the Academic All-Conference by the Atlantic 10 three times. The UMass softball team won the Atlantic 10 and is hosting the NCAA Regionals, beginning Friday in Amherst.
