Casey Wellman Named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week

UMass Hockey forward Casey Wellman has been named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, as announced by the Hockey East Association on Monday. Wellman netted the game-winning goal and added two assists in UMass' thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over No. 4 Boston College on Saturday night. The Minutemen will be back in action Tuesday night as they host No. 15 Vermont at the Mullins Center. Gametime is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
Wellman totaled 10 shots on goal during the home-and-home series against the Eagles. For the season he has amassed two goals and seven assists, which ranks fifth in Hockey East freshman scoring. His nine points is also good for fourth overall on the team.
Wellman, a native of Brentwood, Calif., played two seasons for Cedar Rapids, totaling 30 goals and 39 assists for 69 points in 118 games. During the 2007-08 season, he dressed for 59 games and tallied 22 goals and 23 assists for 55 points. Wellman's point total ranked him 26th overall in the USHL last season.
