Meyers Named Pure Hockey Defensive Player Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts goaltender Dan Meyers has been named the Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 27, as announced by Hockey East on Monday. Meyers led the Minutemen to a 1-0-1 record last week with a 6-0 win at Rensselaer on Tuesday and a 1-1 tie at No. 4 New Hampshire on Friday.
Meyers has started every game so far this season for the Minutemen, posting a 2-1-1 record with a 1.47 goals against average, 109 saves and a .948 save percentage. This is Meyers' second Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week award this season; he also received the honor for the week of October 13 after a 3-2 victory over No. 5 North Dakota. He was also named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week earlier this season.
Last week, Meyers totaled 56 saves and posted a 0.48 goals against average. He now ranks 13th nationally in goals against average and eighth in save percentage. As a team, UMass now ranks seventh in team defense allowing just 1.50 goals per game. Meyers' shutout at Rensselaer was the first of his career, while he made 31 saves (his second best total this season) in the tie at New Hampshire.
The Mass Attack will open up their home schedule this weekend when they host Providence College on Friday night. Massachusetts will then travel to Providence on Saturday to complete the home-and-home weekend. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 PM for both games.
