AMHERST, Mass. - In the annual College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Publications Contest, three UMass media guides claimed "Best In The Nation" honors. The football and hockey publications were honored as the best overall guides and the men's lacrosse book was recognized for having the best cover. Overall, three guides finished among the top-three nationally, while one earned top regional honors. The UMass Media Relations office produces the media guides along with posters, schedule cards, and game programs for all 23 NCAA intercollegiate sports.
Among I-AA football programs, UMass came in first overall (design: Jason Yellin and John Schaffhauser), up from fourth in 2006. For the past eight years, the UMass football guide has been voted among the top-5 every year but one. CoSIDA's contest results are archived back to the 1999-00 season.
The 2006-07 Massachusetts Hockey media guide (design: Kimberly Gardner and John Schaffhauser) earned first place nationally among all NCAA hockey media guides. This marks the first time that the publication has placed No. 1, with the 2005-06 edition of the publication placing sixth.
In addition, the men's lacrosse media guide (design: Jason Yellin and John Schaffhauser) finished third nationally, with the men's lacrosse cover placing first among DI entries. The women's lacrosse guide (design: John Sinnett and John Schaffhauser) was sixth nationally, while the softball guide (design: Seth Gerard and John Schaffhauser) ranked No. 1 regionally in the Northeast.
