Hockey East Announces Semifinal Pairings And Times

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The Hockey East Association announced on Sunday that the No. 4 seed and fourteenth-ranked University of Massachusetts men's hockey team will face off against the No. 5 ranked and No. 1 seed University of New Hampshire in the semifinals of the Hockey East Tournament on Friday, March 16 at 5 p.m. at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston. No. 2 seed Boston College and No. 3 seed Boston University square off in the nightcap at 8 p.m.
UMass and UNH have faced each other four times in the history of the Hockey East Tournament, including two times in the semifinals with both teams winning one game apiece. UMass won the last meeting in the Hockey East semifinals on March 19, 2004 (5-2) and the Wildcats recorded a 5-4 win on March 14, 2003 in the semifinals on their way to the Frozen Four in Buffalo, N.Y.
UMass won the season series vs. the Wildcats 2-1, with the Minutemen winning the last meeting on January 20 (3-0) at the Mullins Center. Massachusetts enters the game with a 20-11-5 overall mark and a 15-9-3 record in league play. The 20 wins for UMass is a team record since joining the Hockey East Association in 1994. Massachusetts is the fifth Hockey East team this season to post 20 wins. The Minutemen head into the semifinals on a six-game win streak, which is the second longest win steak in Division I hockey, which includes a two-game sweep of Maine this past weekend in the conference quarterfinal playoff round. Saturday's win was Head Coach Don Cahoon's 100th at the University of Massachusetts.
The game will be televised by the New England Sports Network (NESN) and will be carried live on the UMass Sports Network (100.9 WRNX FM) as well as via UMassAthletics.com.

Winners of the semifinals will advance to the title game at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, to determine the winner of the 2007 Lamoriello Trophy. Ticket prices will again be $17/$28 for balcony seats and $36/$37 per seat in the loge/premium seats. For both events, a $7 discount on upper balcony seats will be available to groups of 15 or more people and to students with a valid ID from any Hockey East member institution.
