Will Ortiz Named UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week

AMHERST, MASS. - Sophomore Will Ortiz (Framingham, Mass.) was named UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week after scoring the game winning goal against Hockey East rival Boston University. With just under seven minutes to play in regulation and tied at 3-3, Ortiz managed to find the back of the net and helped the Minutemen to their first win in school history at Agganis Arena. UMass defeated the Terriers 5-3.
The following night at UMass Lowell, Ortiz scored the first goal of the night for the Minutemen to tie the score at 1-1. For the second time this season, the Minutemen ended in a tie against the River Hawks.
Ortiz ended the weekend with two goals and currently leads the team with five goals on the season.
The Sports Luncheon is held every Wednesday from Noon to 1 p.m. This week, the luncheon will be held in Room 1009 of the Campus Center and will feature football coach Don Brown, basketball coach Travis Ford, hockey coach Toot Cahoon, and basketball coach Marnie Dacko.
