Reid Selected By Rochester Knighthawks In NLL Draft First Round

NEW YORK, N.Y. - All-American defenseman Jack Reid was selected 10th overall by the Rochester Knighthawks in the first round of the National Lacrosse League Draft on Wednesday. Jake Deane was picked by the Portland Lumberjax in the fourth round. Sean Morris went to the Colorado Mammouth in the final round. The indoor lacrosse league begins play in December.

The draft was held in New York City in The Theater Lobby at Madison Square Garden.

"I hope they want me to play physical, tough defense," said Reid, who also plays for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse.

At UMass, he served was a senior captain and helped lead the Minutemen to the 2006 Division I Finals. Reid was also a 2006 USILA First Team All-American and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team. In addition, he was a top candidate for the Schmeisser Award given to the nation's top defenseman and was one of 25 players named a 2006 Tewaaraton Nominee. The six-foot-three, 220-pound native of Glastonbury, Conn., was also the 2006 ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. With the Rattlers, Reid played in nine games and registered two goals, one assist and 25 ground balls.
