AMHERST, Mass. - As another season of Major League Lacrosse is underway, six former UMass players partake in the surmounting frenzy surrounding professional lacrosse. These Minutemen make up a solid core of the Boston Cannons offense, including who will play in the MLL All-Star Game.
UMass Alum, Head Coach Scott Hiller and the Boston Cannons seems to have taken a liking to the athletes produced by UMass, as four players from the school are on the Cannons roster.
Highlighting the Cannons offense, two-time All-American midfielder Kevin Leveille is coming off a stellar year in 2004 in which he was named the MLL's Most Improved Player and scored career highs in all major statistical categories. Leveille has been awarded his first All-Star appearance along with five other of his Cannon teammates in the 2005 MLL Wild West All-Star Showdown, which takes place July 2, 2005 at INVESCO Field in Denver, Colo. at 7:00 p.m. Leveille has also made an impression on other teams, as he recently scored seven goals against the Long Island Lizards in a 20-14 win on June 22. He was named the MLL's Offensive Player of the Week for his effort. Leveille is tied for the most goals scored in MLL (20), and is also tied at third for points scored (26) with current teammate and UMass alum Mark Million.
2004 UMass Hall of Famer attackman Mark Million is playing his first year with the Cannons after a being acquired from the Baltimore Bayhawks. Million currently stands as the MLL's all-time leading point scorer and has been named to his fourth appearance on the All-Star team. Besides being tied at third for points scored (26) with teammate Leveille, Million is also tied for third in total goals scored (18).
Former All-American midfielder Chris Fiore, who appeared in all 12 games in 2004, is in his third season with the Cannons. Fiore is tied for seventh in league points (17), has been also been awarded his first All-Star appearance, and has scored at least one point in 15 straight games.
