Morris, Reid Named USILA Second Team Lacrosse All-Americans

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass junior attackman Sean Morris (Marshfield, Mass.) and junior defenseman Jack Reid (Glastonbury, Conn.) were named USILA Second Team All-Americans on Saturday. Senior midfielder Chris Doyle (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and senior attackman Jeff Zywicki (Nepean, Ontario) were named USILA Honorable Mention All-Americans. UMass which reached the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 10th time in school history also tied the school-record for wins in a season with 13.

Morris, who was recently selected as one of five finalists for the 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy, led UMass and the ECAC in scoring with 69 points. He tied for the team and ECAC lead in goals with 44, with fellow attacker Zywicki. Morris was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the ECAC First Team. He has been among the national leaders in goals and scoring all season finishing with 4.32 points per game and 2.75 goals per game. He was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week four times in addition to being named the conference preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

Reid, who was on the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List for much of the season is one of the top defenders in the nation. Reid earned his second All-American accolade from the USILA. Last season, he was an Honorable Mention All-American as a sophomore. A member of the ECAC First Team, he led UMass in groundballs (57) and caused turnovers (33). He aided a UMass defense which allowed less than 10 goals on 10 occasions and ranked among the national leaders in goals against average for much of the season. He was the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on March 21. He was also named to the ECAC Second Team in 2003.

Zywicki earned his second USILA All-American honor as he was a Third Team All-American in 2003. He was named to the ECAC First Team this season as he finished his career with 146 points (15th all-time at UMass) and 103 goals to rank ninth all-time. This season he tied Morris for the team and ECAC team in goals with 44 and was second on the team in scoring with 53 points. He was also named to the ECAC First Team in 2003.

Doyle was named an Honorable Mention All-American after being named to the ECAC First Team for the second year in a row. The senior co-captain tied for the team lead in goals among midfielders with 17 and added three assists for 20 points. He was named to the ECAC Honor Roll on April 4 after scoring a career-high tying four goals in the win over Penn State on April 2.

Since 1960, UMass has had 114 All-Americans. The Minutemen also had four USILA All-Americans in 2003.
