Exhibition Action: UMass Rolls Over X-Men, 5-2

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts came up with a 5-2 exhibition win over St. Francis Xavier on Saturday at the Mullins Center practice rink. A total of 30 penalties were called in the game, but the Minutemen were most successful in converting, scoring four goals on 10 opportunities. The practice rink was full, with over 900 fans trying to get a glimpse of the 2005-06 squad.
Seven skaters wore the UMass sweater for the first time, including Alex Berry, who grabbed the fourth goal of the game. Ten Minutemen had a hand in scoring, while four scored two points each: Stephen Werner (2-0-2), P.J. Fenton (1-1-2), Matt Anderson (0-2-2) and Marvin Degon (0-2-2).
UMass opens the regular season next weekend when they travel to St. Lawrence and Clarkson. The first home game is scheduled for Oct. 21 vs. Holy Cross.
