AMHERST, Mass. -- Head Coach Don "Toot" Cahoon has released the final 2004-05 University of Massachusetts hockey schedule. The slate features six teams which made the 2004 NCAA Tournament, including three of the four Frozen Four participants. This year's schedule features four teams from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, which holds the last three national champions. After opening with Clarkson at the Mullins Center on Oct. 9, the Minutemen head to Anchorage, Alaska, for the Nye Fronteir Classic. In the first semifinal on Friday, Oct. 15, UMass will battle Minnesota, winners of the 2002 and 2003 national title, at 5:00 p.m. AST / 9:00 p.m. EDT. On Oct. 16, the Minutemen will take on either Canisius or Alaska-Anchorage at 8:00 or 11:00 p.m. EDT. UMass will then return back to the mainland and host UMass Lowell on Oct. 22, at the Mullins Center. It will be the league opener for the Minutemen, and is a rematch of last year's Hockey East Quarterfinals series. After three home-and-home weekends for UMass in November, it again takes to the skies, heading west to battle Colorado College and the 2004 NCAA champion, Denver, on Nov. 26-27, respectively. UMass will play nine of its 12 December and January games at the Mullins Center, including match-ups against Boston University, two against Maine and one against Boston College. After three road games, UMass will host New Hampshire and Boston University on Feb. 12 and 18, before concluding the home slate on March 4 against Northeastern. Sandwiched between the contests include a Feb. 26 game at NCAA participant Niagara. For ticket information, please call 1-866-UMASS-TIX.
