AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts freshman Brett Garber (Avon, Conn.) was named ECAC Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week after leading the Minutemen with four points (3 g, 1 a) in UMass' 17-10 loss to Syracuse last Saturday. He is the second UMass rookie to win the award as Matt Tundo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) has won two weekly awards.
Garber's four points were a career high as was his three goals, giving him his first-ever hat trick. His three goals came on only four shots. His first point, an assist, came on Ryan Connolly's (North Andover, Mass.) goal midway through the second period. He then scored a man-up tally with 3:08 left in the first half. He tallied one more goal in each of the third and fourth quarters. Garber ranks eighth on the team with eight points (5 g, 3 a) on the season.
Garber and his teammates close out the season on Saturday, May 8, at Garber Field with a 1:05 p.m., matchup against Rutgers. The game is being televised live nationally on CSTV and will mark the final appearance at Garber Field for seven seniors.
