Five Minutemen Named All-New England

AMHERST, Mass. - Jack Reid (Glastonbury, Conn.) was named first team NEILA All-New England and Kevin Glenz (Merrick, N.Y.), Chris Doyle (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and Matt Garcia (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) were all named to the 2004 NEILA All-New England second team in voting done by coaches in New England. Steven Byrnes (Mahopac, N.Y.) was named to the honorable mention team.

Reid, a sophomore defenseman, turned in another brilliant season for the Minutemen, appearing in 13 games. He led the team with 53 ground balls, giving him 86 in his career. He scooped up a career-best eight ground balls twice in the season's last five games and had 28 ground balls in the last six contests of the season. He was named second team All-New England as a freshman.

Glenz, a senior attack, had his finest season with the Minutemen. He was tied for the team lead with 30 points, ranked third with 10 assists and was tied for third with 20 goals. He was named ECAC Player of the Week on March 8 after scoring a career-best eight points (6 g, 2 a) in a 13-7 win over Hartford. The eight points were the eighth-highest total in the NCAA this season and the six goals were the sixth most. He finished his career, playing in 52 games with 63 points (36 g, 27 a).

Doyle, a junior midfield, tied Glenz for the team lead with 30 points and his 25 goals was first on the squad. He scored in every game this season and will carry a 19-game scoring streak into next year. He scored at least two points in the last eight games. For his career, Doyle has 56 points (44 g, 12 a) in 45 career outings.

Garcia, a junior defenseman, was named to the second team for the second straight year after limiting opponents to only 8.29 goals per game, which ranked among the nation's top 20. Garcia scooped up 23 ground balls in 11 contests, despite missing three full games with an ankle sprain.

Byrnes, a sophomore long-stick defenseman, scored two points (1 g, 1 a) in 13 games for the Minutemen, after tallying seven points (2 g, 5 a) as a freshman. He ranked third on the team with 37 ground balls. He has 77 ground balls in two seasons with the Minutemen.

The Minutemen finished with a 7-7 overall record.
