Two Minutemen Garner First Team All-ECAC

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass lacrosse players Kevin Glenz (Merrick, N.Y.) and Chris Doyle (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) were both named 2004 ECAC First Team All-Conference announced today in a vote by league coaches. Also, Head Coach Greg Cannella was named ECAC Coach of the Year for the third time in four years.
Glenz, a senior attack, had his finest season with the Minutemen. He was tied for the team lead with 30 points, ranked third with 10 assists and was tied for third with 20 goals. He was named ECAC Player of the Week on March 8 after scoring a career-best eight points (6 g, 2 a) in a 13-7 win over Hartford. The eight points were the eighth-highest total in the NCAA this season and the six goals were the sixth most. He finished his career, playing in 52 games with 63 points (36 g, 27 a).
Doyle, a junior midfield, tied Glenz for the team lead with 30 points and his 25 goals was first on the squad. He scored in every game this season and will carry a 19-game scoring streak into next year. He scored at least two points in the last eight games. For his career, Doyle has 56 points (44 g, 12 a) in 45 career outings.
Cannella earned his third ECAC Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Minutemen to a 7-7 overall mark, including a 2-1 ECAC mark, good for second in the league. It is the third time in the last four years Cannella has won the award. He owns an 84-54 (.609 winning percentage) career mark in 10 years at UMass. The 84 wins are the second most in school history.
The Minutemen were ranked No. 5 in the preseason polls, but injuries decimated UMass to a 7-7 overall record.
