Minutemen travel to upstate New York for battle under the dome...
? The University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse team continues its "murderer's row" part of the schedule with this afternoon's game at Syracuse. It is the second of three straight games against teams ranked in the nation's top 10, and the final road game of the season for Head Coach Greg Cannella's squad. The Minutemen enter the contest on a two-game losing streak, but have a winning streak in this series for the first time since the 1981 season. Syracuse enters today's game with a 9-2 mark and a No. 4 national ranking.

UMass quick shots...
? The Minutemen have never won under the CarrierDome roof, sporting an 0-11 mark... Last year's victory over Syracuse snapped a 24-game drought, dating back to 1981... Chris Doyle scored his 50th career point with a goal against Yale, and now has 52 career points... Jeff Zywicki (93 career points) is sitting out this season, and will apply for a medical redshirt... Bill Schell has 409 career saves to rank him eighth on the UMass career list... Matt and Gene Tundo have scored a combined 41 points this season.

Heartbreakers...
? Despite having a 6-6 record, the Minutemen are very close to being 9-3. The Minutemen have suffered two losses by one goal and another by two goals. Albany (11-10), Yale (9-8; double overtime) and Georgetown (12-10) all handed the Minutemen heartbreaking defeats. In UMass' six losses, the Minutemen have been outscored 65-47 (10.8 to 7.8). In UMass' six wins, the Minutemen have outscored their foes 74-29 (12.3 to 4.8).

Fab Freshmen...
? A reason for UMass' turnaround has been the play of several freshmen. The highly-regarded rookie class has accounted for 41 points (27 g, 14 a). The 41 points is 22.0 percent of all scoring, the 27 goals is 22.3 percent of all the goals and the 14 assists is 21.5 percent of all the assists. In UMass' 16-4 win over Manhattan, freshmen accounted for eight points (6 g, 2 a), and two Minutemen (Larmon and Whelan) notched their first career goals. Matt Tundo currently ranks fifth on the team with 20 points and fourth with 17 goals. His 20 points is better than five of the 16 players on UMass' top 16 career scoring chart.

Home sweet home...
? Its no secret that most of UMass' success has come when playing at Garber Field, posting a 4-2 record at home. Here is a look at UMass' comparison between playing at home (4-2) and on the road or at a neutral site (2-4):
* Goals Per Game: 10.67 gpg at home vs. 9.33 on the road.
* Goals Allowed Per Game: 6.67 at home vs. 8.84 on the road.
* Opponents Man-Up: 4-25 (.160) at home vs. 15-28 (.536) on the road.
* Bill Schell: 6.81 GAA, .535 sv. % at home vs. 8.93 GAA, .514 sv. % on the road.
* Shots Per Game: 43.5 spg at home vs. 34.8 spg on the road.
* Shots Allowed Per Game: 23.8 spg at home vs. 31.0 on the road.

And the beat goes on...
? Chris Doyle is having another solid season for the Minutemen, ranking second on the team with 26 points (22 g, 4 a). He has scored in 17 straight games, and 26 of the last 28 contests, dating back to the start of last year. His 22 goals is the team lead, and he has scored at least two points in six straight games. He set a career high, tallying four goals in the win over Manhattan.

Stepping it up...
? With the injury to Jeff Zywicki, someone has needed to step up and take charge on offense. That someone has become Kevin Glenz. He leads the Minutemen with 30 points (20 g, 10 a) and netted his 50th career point with an assist against Sacred Heart on March 23. His 30 points are a career high for him already with at least two games left in his senior season. He has scored 63 points in his career and notched his 30th career goals against Penn State. He tallied four goals in the loss to Georgetown, the second-highest total of his career.

Shut 'em down...
? Despite only a 6-6 record, the Minuteman defense has played excellent this season. UMass has held seven teams to nine or fewer goals in a game, and is giving up only 7.76 goals per outing. In 26 of the 48 quarters played this season, the Minuteman defense has held its opponents to one or fewer goals. UMass has allowed only two foes to outshoot it (Brown) and only four teams over 30 shots. When Yale scored 4:25 into the first quarter last weekend, it ended a shutout streak of 42:07, dating back to the first half of the Manhattan game. It marked the second time this season that UMass had a shutout streak of over 40 minutes.

Can I help you...
? Sophomore Sean Morris has been in a helping mood since returning to the lineup after a bout with mono. Entering the season with eight career assists, Morris has tallied 10 assists in the last three games, including a career-best four in last weekend's game with Georgetown. He has 13 assists to lead the team in only eight games.
