Softball To Hold Rec Day On Saturday

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team will be holding a youth rec day on Saturday, May 1. The Minutewomen will be hosting Atlantic 10 Conference foe Fordham for a doubleheader at the UMass Softball Complex beginning at 12:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come with signs and UMass apparel on as the first game will be televised live on CSTV. This marks the first regular season softball game to be televised in conference history.

Fans who come out on Saturday will have the opportunity to participate in many events going on throughout the day. At every home game, fans can play "Softball Bingo" and enter a chance to win the "Best Seat In The House." The winner will receive a seat upgrade to the patio in left-center field where they will be treated to Dominos Pizza and Coke for them and their friends. Bingo winners will receive UMass merchandise.

There will also be plenty of t-shirts given away for free throughout the day and there will also be a spirited sign contest.

There will be several raffles going on throughout the day where fans can win UMass Softball apparel and prizes donated by Planet Fastpitch. Planet Fastpitch, New England's largest exclusive fastpitch softball facility, offers professional instruction, state-of-the-art training equipment, three spacious batting cages, video and speed analysis, and a number of specialized programs for individuals, groups and teams. Planet Fastpitch also offers a variety of coaching clinics in pitching, hitting, catching and all other offensive and defensive skills and drills. It is located in Uxbridge, Mass.

Massachusetts is currently 24-13 overall and 7-1 in the A-10. They are in first place in the league and have the nation's longest home winning streak at 65 games. UMass is home for six games this week. It will host Rhode Island on Thursday (3:00 p.m.), Fordham on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) and Quinnipiac on Sunday (12:00 p.m.).
