UMass Hockey Signs Six To NLI's

AMHERST, Mass. - Alexander Berry (Danvers, Mass.), Topher Bevis (Harvard, Mass.), Sam D'Agostino (Medford,Mass.), Jason Lepine (Cornwall, Ontario), Jonathan Quick (Hampden, Conn.), and Cory Quirk (Brockton, Mass.) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Massachusetts announced head hockey coach Don "Toot" Cahoon.

Berry, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound, right wing, enters UMass after playing for the Junior Bruins of the EJHL. A member ofthe 2003 USA Under-18 squad, Berry is arguably the best professional-prospect of the group. The native of Danvers, Mass., was rated the 134th top player of 250 prospects according to the NHL Central Scouting Release. The product of Cushing Academy posted has played in 17 games with the Junior Bruins tallying six goals and five assists. A tremendous physical presence, he was one of the hardest hitters in the EJHL with a strong shot.

Bevis was a member of the 2002 USA Under-17 team along with current Minuteman Stephen Werner. Also a member of the EJHL Junior Bruins, Bevis recorded one goal and eight assists from his left defenseman position. An athletic defender with good puck movement, he has excellent vision on the ice and a hard shot.

D'Agostino is 6-foot, 190-pound left wing who also attended Cushing Academy. The native of Medford, Mass., is a hard-nosed defender. During his prep career, D'Agostino also played in the select Under-17 program in St. Cloud, Minn.

Lepine is a right defender who has played for the Cornwall Colts of the COJHL for the last two seasons. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Cornwall, Ontario, played in 98 games during his time with the Colts scoring 16 goals and recording 31 assists.

Quick is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound goalie who is the captain of the Avon Old Farms Prep School hockey team. With his senior campaign just underway, Quick made 30 saves in a 10-0 shutout to open the season. He was a member of the New England Prep Division I Championship team and is a terrific all-around goalie.

Quirk, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound center/left wing from Brockton, Mass., scored 28 goals and had 24 assists for Catholic Memorial prior to playing for the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL. In the 2004 USHL Buc Bowl Tournament, he tallied three goals in the tourney, including a game-winner.

"We think this will be one of our principle nucleus classes which will set a foundation for the next cycle of years for UMass Hockey," said Cahoon. "We feel their strength, speed, and hockey sense merged with the good goaltending in this group will greatly contribute to our program."
