AMHERST, Mass. - The Tewaaraton Selection Committee has announced that UMass senior Chris Fiore (Freeport, N.Y.) has joined the list of finalists for college lacrosse's most coveted trophy. Fiore joins senior Kevin Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.), who was named on the initial preseason list. The Tewaaraton Trophy is presented annually to the top male and female varsity collegiate lacrosse players in the United States.
Fiore, a senior attack, is third on the team in scoring with 42 points. His 34 goals rank second on the team, and he leads the team with 100 shots. He scored a career-high six points while tying a career high with five goals in the season-opening victory over Sacred Heart. Fiore was a preseason first team All-ECAC selection and a second team preseason All-America honoree. He has posted seven hat tricks on the season, including in each of the last two games, and has scored a point in 28 straight games, dating back to last season. He was named ECAC Player of the Week on April 7, after leading the Minutemen to an 11-8 victory over UMBC. In that contest, he scored four points (3 g, 1 a), one of four times this season he has reached the four-point plateau.
Fiore and the No. 5 Minutemen will battle Hofstra in a first-round NCAA Tournament game at Garber Field on Sunday, May 11. Face-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. For ticket information, call the UMass Ticket Office at 1-866-UMASS-TIX.
