SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- After being outscored, 4-1, in the first half the University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team scored four goals in the last 30 minutes of play to make a comeback in its 8-5 loss to No. 8 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Minutewomen to 4-3 on the season while the Orangewomen improved to 4-2.

After Syracuse got out to an early 4-0 lead, senior Jada Emery (Princeton, N.Y.) got UMass on the board with 1:11 remaining in the first half. UMass took the momentum from Emery's goal into the second half where they tallied four goals to get themselves back into the game against the Orangewomen.

The two teams each scored four goals in the second period, with sophomore Maura McGarrity (Chester Springs, Pa.), senior Kelli Kurtz (Schwenksville, Pa.) and freshman Jackie Nesbitt (Springfield, Pa.) scoring three straight goals for the Minutewomen. The three goals narrowed SU's lead to 6-4 with 9:45 remaining in the game.

The Orangewomen widened their lead to 7-4 on Leigh-Ann Zimmer's second goal of the game at the 8:06 mark. Emery answered Syracuse's score with another goal of her own with 4:51 left in the game, but the SU was able to clinch the victory with another score at the 4:27 mark, giving the Orangewomen the 8-5 victory.

UMass will return to action on March 29 when they open Atlantic 10 Conference play against La Salle at Garber Field.
