AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass Women's lacrosse team jumped out to an 8-0 halftime lead, and coasted in the second half for a 15-4 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over La Salle on Saturday at Garber Field. The win moves UMass' record to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the Atlantic 10.

The Minutewomen needed less than four minutes to tally their first goal of the game, as senior Lydia Robinson (Summit, N.J.) scored at the 26:55 mark of the first half to give UMass a 1-0 lead. The Minutewomen added to the lead eight minutes later with goals by Hope Zelinger (Ellicott City, Md.) and Robinson just eight seconds apart to push the advantage to 3-0. Leslie Pollack (Watervliet, N.Y.) tallied back-to-back markers at the 13:45 and 8:16 marks to push the UMass cushion to 6-0. Less than a minute-and-a-half later, Maura McGarrity (Chester Springs, Pa.) scored her second goal of the half for a 7-0 lead, and Zelinger notched her second goal of the first 30 minutes with just 1:40 to play for a 8-0 UMass halftime lead. The Minutewomen dominated the first half statistically, firing 15 shots at the La Salle keeper, and Cyndi Doyle (Bridgewater, Vt.) stopped five shots to preserve the first-half shutout.

In the second half, the Minutewomen picked up where they left off as Robinson completed her hat trick at the 26:45 mark for a 9-0 lead. La Salle narrowed the margin to 11-4 on consecutive goals by Kristen Davis with just over 10 minutes to play, but McGarrity ended any Explorer hopes with goals at the 9:37 and 7:23 mark for a 13-4 lead. Lindsay Cassell (Weston, Mass.) and Lori Kain (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) concluded the scoring with netters at the 5:01 and 3:03 marks, respectively.

The Minutewomen defense forced 14 turnovers, while committing only nine themselves, and Doyle made 11 saves in the cage for UMass. McGarrity led the Minutewomen with four goals, while Robinson and Zelinger each tallied three. Zelinger also added an assist.

The Minutewomen will be in action next on Monday, March 31, with a 3:00 game against Hofstra at Garber Field.
