Men's Soccer Team Announces 2003 Schedule

AMHERST, Mass.- University of Massachusetts men's soccer coach Sam Koch has announced the 2003 men's soccer schedule. Three teams that made the 2002 NCAA Tournament are on the schedule, including St. John's, who was ranked No. 1 for much of the season.
The Minutemen open with a pair of exhibition games. UMass battles the University of Montreal at Rudd Field on August 18 at 5:00 p.m., then play St. John's in the Adidas Cup Challenge at Szot Park in Chicopee on August 23 at 7:00 p.m. Last season, UMass claimed the Adidas Cup, defeating seventh-ranked Rutgers, 4-3. After a road battle at Hartford a week later, the Minutemen head to Alabama to play in the UAB Nike Classic against Birmingham Southern and UAB. On Sept. 12-14, the Minutemen host the UMass Adidas Classic at Rudd Field. The Minutemen will play Mercer and Navy. The final three non-conference games will be matches against Boston University, Siena and New Hampshire. The Atlantic 10 season gets underway on Oct. 3-5 with a premier two-game set against the two teams from the A-10 that appeared in the NCAA Tournament. On Friday, UMass takes on George Washington, followed by Richmond on the fifth. Both games are at Rudd Field.
UMass went 12-6-2 last season and claimed the A-10 regular-season title with an 8-1-2 mark.
