AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts hockey player Thomas P?ck (Klagenfurt, Austria) has been named November's CCM Hockey East Player of the Month for his performance over the past month. It is the first time in school history that a UMass player has won Player of the Month honors.
P?ck, a senior forward-turned-defenseman, scored 11 points (6 g, 5 a) in leading UMass to its highest national ranking ever (7th last week) and a 5-2-2 mark over the month. He opened November with two two-goal games in victories over Providence and Merrimack and then added a two-assist performance against Merrimack on Nov. 8. He scored in all games but one, a 1-1 tie against third-ranked Maine, and leads the nation's blueliners with 19 points and nine goals and is tied for the nation's lead with 10 assists. He enters December on a three-game scoring streak, and has scored in 12-of-14 games so far this year. In last Saturday's 1-1 tie with Nebraska-Omaha, he became UMass' all-time leading-scoring defenseman with 56 points, despite playing the position for only 47 games.
P?ck and his teammates will hit the road for a key Hockey East battle with rival Boston University at Boston's Walter Brown Arena on Sunday, Dec. 7. Face-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast by Fox Sports New England.
