AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts hockey player Thomas P?ck (Klagenfurt, Austria) was named Hockey East defensive player of the week following No. 12 UMass' two-game sweep of Merrimack this weekend. It is the first weekly honor for a UMass player this season.

P?ck, a senior defenseman, led the Minutemen to a sweep of Merrimack over the weekend. He scored both goals in UMass' 2-0 win over the Warriors on Friday night in his 100th career game. He then tallied two assists, including one on Stephen Werner's (Chevy Chase, Md.) game-winning goal, in the Minutemen's 5-3 triumph on Saturday night. P?ck currently leads Hockey East in scoring in league games (nine) and all games (14). He also ranks first among the nation's defensemen in points (14), points per game (1.75) and goals (seven). He is tied for 15th on the school's all-time scoring list with 77 points with teammate Greg Mauldin (Holliston, Mass.).

P?ck and the Minutemen will battle No. 5-ranked Boston College on Friday night at the Mullins Center. Face-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, contact the UMass ticket office at 1-866-UMASS-TIX.
