AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse head coach Greg Cannella released the Minutemen's 2003 schedule today. UMass will play three games against 2002 NCAA Tournament participants, all at home, including defending national champion Syracuse and Georgetown.
"Once again, we are taking on a very challenging schedule," said Cannella. "We will be playing nine teams that were ranked last season and will once again strive to be the best team in the ECAC."
The Minutemen will open the 2003 campaign with three consecutive home games beginning with Sacred Heart on Saturday, Feb. 22. After home games against 2002 NCAA Tournament participant Stony Brook and ECAC foe Navy on March 1 and 8, respectively, Massachusetts will hit the road for the first time by travelling to Providence, R.I., for a game against Brown on March 15.
Massachusetts will look to capture its 19th New England championship with games against Brown, Hartford, Yale and Harvard.
The 2003 slate will be highlighted by back-to-back home contests against Syracuse and Georgetown. The perrenial ECAC Lacrosse League power Hoyas will visit Richard F. Garber Field on Saturday, April 19, while the defending national champion Orangemen will be in Amherst April 26.
