Four Minuteman Lacrosse Players Earn All-Amercia Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse players Chris Fiore (Freeport, N.Y.), Kevin Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.), Matt McFarland (Garden City, N.Y.) and Marc Morley (Canton, N.Y.) were named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America team it was announced today. Leveille earned second team honors, McFarland was named to the third team and both Fiore and Morley received honorable mention recognition.

Leveille, a junior midfielder, finished the season ranked second on the team in scoring with 48 points. He was also second on the team in goals with 36 and tied for fourth in assists with 12. Leveille had at least two points in 15 of the 16 games this season, including scoring three or more goals eight times. In his three seasons with the Minutemen, he has scored 71 goals and 37 assists for 108 career points. Earlier this month Leveille was named first team All-ECAC and first team All-New England. He was named honorable mention All-America following last season. Leveille is the ninth Minuteman in the program's history to earn second team honors.

McFarland, a senior defenseman, finished the season ranked first on the team and ninth nationally with 102 ground balls. He also had a career-high four goals and four assists for eight points. He ended his four-year career for the Minutemen with 240 ground balls and 11 points. McFarland was named first team All-ECAC and first team All-New England following the regular season. This year marks the third straight season that he has earned All-America honors. He was named to the third team in 2001 and was named honorable mention in 2000. McFarland is the ninth Massachusetts player to be named a three-time All-American.

Fiore, a junior midfielder, finished the season tied for third on the team in goals with 34 and fourth in points with 46. He scored at least two points in all but two games this season. Fiore ended the season with a 14-game point scoring streak. He was also named first team All-ECAC and second team All-New England.

Morley, a senior attackman, led the Minutemen in scoring with 52 points. He was also first in goals with 37 and second in assists with 15. Morley scored at least two points in 14 of the 16 games this season, including three or more points 13 times. He was also named first team All-ECAC and first team All-New England. He finished his Massachusetts career with 79 goals and 39 assists for 118 points.

Massachusetts finished the 2002 season with a 12-3 overall record. The Minutemen captured both the ECAC Lacrosse and New England championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time in the program's history. Massachusetts finished the season with the nation's second highest scoring offense, averaging 14.13 goals per game.
