SATURDAY'S GAME WITH PENN STATE
Massachusetts enters the game at 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the ECAC, while Penn State enters the game with a 3-3 overall record and an 0-2 ECAC record. This is just the third all-time meeting between the two ECAC schools. The home team has won both previous meetings, with the Minutemen winning, 10-9, in Amherst last season. Current junior Kevin Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) had a goal and three assists in the win, and current senior Don Little (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had a pair of goals. The Nittany Lions prevailed, 11-8, the previous year in a game played at University Park, Pa.

SCOUTING THE PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS
Penn State is coming off a 9-8 league loss at UMBC last Saturday. The Nittany Lions have lost three straight close games after opening the season with three consecutive wins over Notre Dame, Fairfield and Air Force. They then lost consecutive home games to Georgetown, 11-10, and Cornell, 11-9. Penn State is led by Will Driscoll (19g, 3a), Luke Ogelsby (3g, 12a), Tim Emmick (7g, 3a), Sean Droogan (3g, 5a) and Mike Jacober (7g, 0a). The defense is anchored by goaltender Chris Garrity, who has started all six games. He has a 7.85 goals against average and a .609 save percentage. Rob Booth has taken most of the faceoffs and has won 37 of 67. The Nittany Lions have scored on four of 22 (.182) extra-man opportunites this season.

PACCIONE KEEPS GETTING BETTER
Attackman Dan Paccione (Amityville, N.Y.) is enjoying his senior campaign. In his three previous season as a Minuteman, he played in a combined 32 games and had scored a modest 20 goals and three assists for 23 points. Through seven games this season, Paccione has scored 20 goals and five assists for 25 points. He set a new career-high with six goals in last Saturday's 19-5 victory over Hartford. He has scored at least one goal in all seven games this season and is currently second on the team in scoring.

MODELS OF CONSISTENCY
Senior attackmen Dan Paccione and Mark Morley (Canton, N.Y.), along with junior midfielder Kevin Leveille have scored at least two points in all seven games. Morley's lowest point total in a game this season has been three, while Paccione and Leveille's lowest totals have been two. They are the three top scorers on the team. Morley now has 92 points in his career and is averaging over two points (2.24) a game.

THE FIRST 100 GAMES
Saturday's game at Penn State will be the 100th game that Greg Cannella has been head coach of Massachusetts. Since taking over the program in the fall of 1994, he has led the Minutemen to two NCAA Tournaments and two New England championships. Cannella was named the 2001 ECAC Coach of the Year and has an impressive 58-41 (.586) record entering the weekend.

THE LAST TIME OUT FOR THE MINUTEMEN
Senior attackman Dan Paccione scored a career-high six goals to lift Massachusetts to a 19-5 victory over Hartford at Richard F. Garber Field. The 11th-ranked Minutemen improved to 6-1 on the year with the victory. Massachusetts jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first six minutes of play, on three goals from Paccione and a score by senior attackman Marc Morley. The Hawks then came back to score three of the next four goals, with senior midfielder Tyler Francey scoring at the 14:03 mark of the second quarter to cut the UMass lead to 5-3. But the Minutemen then went on an 8-0 scoring run, netting the last five goals of the second quarter and the first three of the third, to take a 13-3 lead with 5:39 left in the third period. UMass cruised to victory from that point, outscoring the Hawks 6-2 for the remainder of the game. In addition to Paccione's career-high six goals, Morley, junior midfielder Chris Fiore (Freeport, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Kevin Leveille each scored three goals for Massachusetts. Freshman attackman Gene Tundo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Jeff Zywicki (Nepean, Ontario) also had solid games, recording three assists each.

FRESHMEN MAKING AN IMPACT
A number of freshmen have made an immediate impact for the Minutemen this season. Attackman Gene Tundo leads the class with five goals and nine assists. Attackman Craig Conn (St. Cahterines, Ontario) is second with two goals and five assists. Goaltender Bill Schell has a 3-0 record on the season, earning starts in the last two. Midfielder Greg Scott (Westport, Conn.) and defenseman Matt Garcia (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) have each played in all seven games this season.

PACCIONE AND CONN EARN WEEKLY HONORS
Attackmen Dan Paccione and Craig Conn each earned honors for their play in the two victories last week. Paccione was named WHMP/UMass Athlete of the Week for his seven goals and three assists, while Conn earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors for scoring a goal and five assists. It is the second time this season Paccione has earned a weekly honor, as he was previously named ECAC Offensive Player of the Week on March 11.

IN CASE YOU DID NOT KNOW ...
Marc Morley leads the ECAC in points with 26 and Dan Paccione is second with 25. Paccione is first in the ECAC with 20 goals, and Morley is third in assists with 11... Senior defenseman Matt McFarland (Garden City, N.Y.) leads the ECAC with 47 ground balls. He has scored two goals in the last three games... The Minutemen have the highest scoring offense (13.1) in the ECAC.
