Werner Named USCHO.com National Player of Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Stephen Werner (Chevy Chase, Md.) was named USCHO.com National Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Wednesday. Werner is the second Minuteman hockey player in school history to win the award.
Werner, a freshman forward, had a big impact on three Minuteman victories last week. He scored eight points (3 g, 5 a), tying his career high with four points (1 g, 3 a) in a 7-2 win over Dartmouth. He added a goal and assist in each of the wins against Vermont and Princeton. Altogether, Werner leads the Minutemen with 15 points (7 g, 8 a), which ranks him second in the conference and fourth in the country among freshmen. Werner leads the Minutemen and Hockey East with a +15 ratio. Werner is the first player in school history to play for the United States National Development Team Program.
Goalies Mike Johnson and Markus Helanen were the other two Minutemen honored.
