Four Men's Lacrosse Players Earn Preseason Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - Four University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse players were named to the preaseaon All-ECAC team. The team is voted on by the six head coaches in the conference.
Junior midfielder Kevin Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.), senior midfielder Don Little (Clifton Park, N.Y.), senior defender Matt McFarland (Garden City, N.J.) and senior attackman Marc Morley (Canton, N.Y.) were all named to the preseason team.
Leveille was second on UMass in scoring last season with 25 goals and 18 assists for 43 points. He was named an honorable mention All-American by the USILA and was a second team All-ECAC and All-New England selection. Little finished last season fourth on UMass in scoring with 22 goals and five assists for 27 points. He was named a second team All-ECAC selection. McFarland was named a third team All-American in 2001 and was named first team All-ECAC and All-New England. Morley finished the season second on the team in goals with 29 and third in scoring with 37 points.
The Minutemen, co-champions of the ECAC, finished the 2001 season with a 12-2 overall record and captured their 17th New England championship and first since 1997. The 12 victories tied for the third most ever by a UMass team. The Minutemen ended the season in the top 10 in all seven of the statistical categories the NCAA kept, including being first in man-down defense and second in scoring offense. UMass also finished the regular season ranked No. 9 in the STX/USILA Coaches' Poll.
Massachusetts opens the 2002 season on Saturday, Feb. 23, against regional rival Hofstra in a 1:00 p.m. game at Richard F. Garber Field.
