AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's and women's cross country teams, along with the men's soccer team, have canceled their previously scheduled competition set for this weekend.
Both cross country squads were scheduled to participate in a meet at Boston University, but will not travel this weekend.
"This was a difficult decision to make," head women's cross country coach Julie LaFreniere said. "Our athletes wanted to run this weekend, but we don't feel that this is the time for us to compete."
The women's team will travel to Boston on Tuesday to participate in a meet at Franklin Park.
The Minuteman soccer team was slated to play Hartford at Totman Field on Sunday. Head coach Sam Koch, who had scheduled the game earlier this week after the UMass Classic was cancelled, reconsidered his decision on Friday.
"I don't think this is the time to play a soccer match," Koch said. "Our kids aren't ready to play mentally, and quite frankly, I don't think I'm ready to play a game."
The men's soccer team will return to action on Wednesday as the Minutemen travel to New Hampshire. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
UMass' women's soccer squad has delayed the start time of its match to noon on Sunday. That match will take place at Totman Field.
