Four Men's Lacrosse Players Earn All-America Honors

AMHERST, Mass. -- Four University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse players earned STX/United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America honors it was announced today. This marks the most players UMass has had earn All-America honors since five players earned the distinction in 1990.
Junior defender Matt McFarland (Garden City, N.Y.) was named to the third team, while senior attackman Rich Kunkel (Centereach, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Kevin Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) and senior goaltender Chris Campolettano (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) were all named honorable mention.
McFarland finished the season with 37 ground balls and scored a goal and an assist for two points. He was an honorable mention last season.
Kunkel led UMass in scoring with 35 goals and 13 assists for 48 points. He ended his four-year career as the 12th all-time leading goal scorer in UMass history with 86 goals. Leveille was second on the team in scoring with 25 goals and 18 assists for 43 points. Campolettano ended the season with a 7.86 goals against average (ninth nationally) and a .627 save percentage (sixth nationally). He finished his career as the sixth all-time career leader in saves with 473.
The Minutemen, co-champions of the ECAC, finished the season with a 12-2 overall record and captured their 17th New England championship and first since 1997. The 12 victories is tied for the third most ever by a UMass team. The Minutemen ended the season in the top 10 in all seven of the statistical categories the NCAA keeps, including being first in man-down defense and second in scoring offense. UMass also finished the regular season ranked No. 9 in the STX/USILA Coaches' Poll.
