AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse team scored six goals in the first eight minutes of the game and never looked back as they defeated Boston College, 23-2, this afternoon at Richard F. Garber Field.
Freshman Neil Lundberg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) led the way with four goals and an assist. Sophomore Kevin Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) and senior Rich Kunkel (Centereach, N.Y.) each tallied three goals and an assist, while senior Kevin Dell (Huntington Station, N.Y.) recorded a goal and three assists. Senior Jeremy Guski (Mahopac, N.Y.) and senior Chris Lynch (Clifton Park, N.Y.) contributed with two goals apiece.
Other UMass scorers were junior Don Little (Clifton Park, N.Y.), senior Jeff Seals (Long Valley, N.J.), junior Dan Paccione (Amityville, N.Y.), senior Alex Racioppi (Winchester, Mass.), sophomore Chris Fiore (Freeport, N.Y.), sophomore Kevin Merchant (Broomall, Pa.), junior Dusty Smith (West Chester, Pa.) and freshman Jeff Zywicki (Nepean, Ontario).
The Minutemen led 13-0 at halftime, and held a 63-19 advantage in shots for the game. UMass converted one out of five extra man opportunities, while holding the Eagles scoreless in their eight chances. Brian Albano and John Cella scored the goals for Boston College.
The Minutemen broke the 20-goal plateau for the first time since scoring 22 against Fairfield on March 8, in the 1997 season-opener. The Minutemen are now 28-0 all-time against the Eagles.
The victory improves UMass to 5-0 overall on the season, while the loss drops Boston College to 0-3.
UMass returns to action on Sunday, March 25, when they host regional rival Vermont at Garber Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
