AMHERST, Mass. - Junior forward Jeff Deren (Chicopee, Mass.) was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Deren is the second-consecutive Minuteman to earn Player of the Week honors, following Ptah Myers' (Columbus, Ohio) selection last week.
Deren, the conference's leading scorer, tallied two game-winning goals and two assists on the weekend, as UMass remained tied atop the Atlantic 10 standings. He contributed on all three scores in the Minutemen's 3-1 victory over Richmond on Friday, scoring a goal and assisting on the other two. He also scored UMass' final goal in a 2-1 victory over George Washington on Sunday, securing the win and the team's third-consecutive berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
The Minutemen, who boast two of the league's top three goal scorers and three players in the top six in total points, conclude regular-season action next weekend, when they travel to Ohio to face Dayton on Friday and Xavier on Sunday. UMass is in the midst of a nine-game winning streak, tied for the longest in school history. The Minutemen also won nine consecutive games from 1930-32.
