AMHERST, Mass. - Junior midfielder Alex Racioppi (Winchester, Mass.), a member of the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse team, has been named the ECAC Lacrosse Player of the Week and the WHMP / UMass Athlete of the Week for his performances against Harvard and Georgetown last week. Racioppi totaled nine goals for the Minutemen in those two contests.
Racioppi's top game came against fifth-ranked Georgetown, as he totaled a career-best best seven goals in the narrow 19-18 loss. The seven goals scored are the most by a Minuteman in a single game in five years, since Brendan Glass found the net seven times in a 10-9 victory over Notre Dame on Apr. 22, 1995. Racioppi also scored two goals earlier in the week against Harvard, as UMass posted a 10-9 victory over the 13th-ranked Crimson.
For the season, Racioppi now ranks third on the team in goals scored with 16. UMass is currently ranked 20th in the nation with an overall record of 5-6 and a 1-4 mark in the ECAC.
The Minutemen will next be in action on Saturday, Apr. 29, when they travel to second-ranked Syracuse for a 4:00 p.m. game.
