AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman Kaila Holtz (North Vancouver, B.C.) pitched her third career shutout to lead the University of Massachusetts to a 2-0 victory over Syracuse in the first game of a doubleheader today. The Minutewomen went on to sweep the Orangewomen, after defeating Syracuse 7-4 in the second contest of the day. Sophomore Cherra Wheeler (Kingsburg, Calif.) doubled to cap off the second inning for UMass, and Holtz then singled, advancing Wheeler to third base. Wheeler went on to score the final run of the day off an RBI by junior Debbie Tomoguchi (Irvine, Calif.) to seal the 2-0 win.
