Kelsey McGovern
Former All-American Kelsey McGovern was named assistant coach of the women’s lacrosse program in July 2016.

McGovern was a standout defensive player and draw control specialist for the Minutewomen from 2011-2014 where she helped UMass win four straight Atlantic 10 titles to reach the NCAA Tournament.

During the 2015 and 2016 seasons, the Acton, Mass., native served as an assistant coach at Bryant where her coaching helped the Bulldogs reach the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

Under McGovern's guidance, Bryant jumped into the national top-20 in draw control wins in 2015, averaging 13.11 per game to rank 17th on the Division I circuit and second in the Northeast Conference. She has also helped the offense continue to excel in the league and in the region.

A two-time All-Atlantic 10 First Team pick, McGovern captained the 18th-ranked Minutewomen to their fourth-straight NCAA tournament berth in 2014, earning IWLCA All-Region Second Team and North/South Game nods along the way.

She finished her UMass career with a then-program record 201 draw controls. She also held the previous single-season record-setting performance of 110 draws as a junior in 2013 – a mark that was eclipsed this past season by rising senior Hannah Murphy.

Named a 2013 IWLCA Third Team All-American and First Team All-Region selection, McGovern was placed on Inside Lacrosse’s Top 10 Game Changers list as a junior and finished her career with 59 caused turnovers, 76 ground balls, 10 goals and five assists in 76 appearances.

In the summer of 2016, McGovern was selected to play for the Philadelphia Force as part of the first-ever women’s lacrosse professional league, the UWLX.

On the sidelines, McGovern has extensive camp and club coaching experience, co-founding the Storm Lax Camp in 2010 and coaching the Storm Lacrosse Club since 2012. She has also been on the staff of lacrosse camps at Boston College, UMass and Northwestern, among others.

Academically, McGovern was just as much of a standout, earning Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team honors in 2013 and 2014 as a kinesiology major, while also qualifying for the Dean’s List and the A-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. She was also a 2013 NCAA Leadership Conference participant.
