Jana Drummond enters her 10th year on the Massachusetts women’s lacrosse staff in 2027 and fifth as the head coach.

Through her first four seasons as the program’s leader, Drummond has won four conference regular season championships, along with three conference tournament titles and NCAA Tournament appearances. She owns a perfect 35-0 record in regular season conference games and has been named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year three times and Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year once.

Most recently, Drummond helped UMass in its first season in the MAC in 2026. Massachusetts finished 16-3, posting a 12-game winning streak – the program’s seventh straight season with a double-figure win streak. The Minutewomen finished 9-0 against MAC opponents, including a 15-3 win over defending champion Akron in the MAC Championship Game. In the NCAA Tournament, Massachusetts played an instant classic against sixth-seeded Navy, leading for long stretches and fighting back from a late third-quarter deficit to pull even. The Midshipmen scored the game-winning goal in the final minute, but it was a sign that UMass was one of the nation’s best teams. The Minutewomen went on to be ranked 23rd in the final IWLCA National Ranking, while coming in 25th in the KANE Women’s DI Media Poll and final NCAA RPI.

Statistically, the Minutewomen finished top five in a number of important team stats: #1 in assists and points per game, #2 in scoring margin and scoring offense, #3 in scoring defense, #4 in caused turnovers per game and #5 in draw controls per game and save percentage. UMass had four IWLCA All-Region selections, nine All-MAC honorees and three major MAC awards. Along with Drummond’s Coach of the Year, Bridget Valentine was named Defensive Player of the Year and Cate Marshall earned Rookie of the Year. Kassidy Morris wrapped up her stellar career as the program’s all-time leader in goals (247) and second in points (322). Her 104 points on the season were also a program record. Morris was named All-ECAC to go with her first team All-MAC honors. She finished fourth nationally in goals per game (3.89) while goalkeeper Bayley Duffy was fourth in goals against average (7.78) and eighth in save percentage (49.8).

Drummond led Massachusetts through a stellar 2025 campaign, earning ECAC Coach of The Year honors after coaching the Minutewomen to their first A-10 Championship since 2021. Under Drummond, Massachusetts finished the season with a 15-4 record and a 10-0 mark in A-10 play, earning the program's 55th consecutive regular season victory. Drummond received her third straight A-10 Coach of The Year honor as the Minutewomen claimed their 14th consecutive A-10 Regular Season Championship and 16th straight season with either a regular season or tournament title. The Minutewomen earned their 16th NCAA Tournament appearance overall, fourth in the last five seasons and second under Drummond. In the wake of the 2025 season both Jordan Dean and Morris earned USA Lacrosse and ILWomen All-America honors with Morris also claiming A-10 Offensive Player of the Year recognition. Under Drummond's tutelage Massachusetts has received nine major conference awards and 10 All-American honors overall.

In 2024, Drummond was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the second time in two seasons after leading the Minutewomen to their 13th straight A-10 regular season championship. Drummond led Massachusetts to a 13-5 record and a perfect 9-0 mark in A-10 play, marking the program's fifth straight unbeaten season in conference play. As a team, UMass ranked atop Division I in draw controls per game, second in assists per game and fourth in points per game. Drummond's squad also ranked among the top-15 nationally in multiple offensive categories, including scoring offense, scoring margin, and shots per game.

Drummond was named the 2023 Atlantic 10 Co-Coach of the Year after leading the Minutewomen to a 16-3 overall record and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in her first season at the helm. UMass posted a 9-0 mark in A-10 play to capture the program’s 15th regular season title. The Minutewomen rattled off 15 consecutive wins and climbed as high as No. 13 in the IWLCA/ILWomen Division I Top-25 Poll. UMass claimed four major A-10 awards with Fiona McGowan named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Amy Moreau earning Midfielder of the Year honors, with Audra Tosone named the Defender of the Year. The Minutewomen placed 10 players on the all-Atlantic 10 teams with five on the first-team all-conference squad.

Under Drummond, the UMass offense ranked second nationally in assists per game with 8.21, led by Fiona McGowan’s 2.53 assists per game that ranked seventh nationally. The Minutewomen averaged 19.58 ground balls per game to rank third nationally while ranking among the top-10 in points per game, scoring margin, scoring offense, shot percentage, and win percentage.

Over her five seasons under former head coach Angela McMahon-Serpone, Drummond helped lead the squad to a record of 81-21, five Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championships, two Atlantic 10 Tournament titles and three NCAA Tournament berths.

In 2022, the Minutewomen earned the first at-large NCAA Tournament bid in program history and were ranked No. 19 in the final poll. UMass finished fifth in the nation in caused turnovers per game and sixth nationally in clearing percentage on Drummond’s watch. At the conclusion of the season, 18 individuals were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, while six individuals earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors and three were named Inside Lacrosse All-Americans.

Under Drummond’s guidance, Caitlyn Petro tied the NCAA record for individual draw wins in a game in 2021 and the Minutewomen finished second in the nation in draw controls per-game. That season, Drummond led the No. 12 scoring defense in the nation and mentored Steph Croke to her third Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year accolade (2018, 2019, 2021) as well as six All-Northeast Region honorees, six Atlantic 10 honorees and an IWLCA All-American. Drummond helped two defenders, Moreau and Dean, earn national team tryouts with USA and Canada, respectively, while Ally Murphy was selected to the USA U19 squad.

As an assistant coach in 2019 Drummond helped guide the Massachusetts draw unit to a nation-best 19.11 draw controls per-game mark while posting the sixth-best draw control percentage in the country at .616. She was promoted to associate head coach following that season.

The Minutewoman draw unit saw a steady improvement after ranking 16th in the country in draw controls per game in 2018 during Drummond's first year on staff as they claimed their first of two consecutive Atlantic 10 regular-season titles during her time in Amherst.

Prior to arriving at UMass, Drummond served as an assistant coach at Marist where she coordinated the defense and coached the draw specialists, helping the Red Foxes win their first-ever MAAC regular-season championship in 2014. Under her tutelage, Hailey Wagner became the single-season draw control record holder at Marist while several Red Foxes were nationally ranked.

During her playing career, Drummond was a three-year co-captain and three-time all-conference selection at Oregon, where she finished as the program's all-time leading scorer with 146 goals.

Drummond graduated with a master's degree in school psychology from Marist in 2016 after graduating from Oregon with a double major in psychology and sociology in 2013.
