Massachusetts Baseball Defeated By Toledo, 16-11

The Minutemen recorded a season-high three home runs in the loss.
UMass moved to 4-5 overall on the season and 0-3 in the Mid-American Conference, while Toledo improved to 6-8 overall and 3-0 in MAC play.
Anthony Tirado, Jack Beverly and Will Briggs all had two hits each, with five other Minutemen registering a hit. Briggs and Vance Bonior led UMass in runs with two each, while Gavin O'Brine had a team-high three RBI. Ty Fox and Marc Willi tallied two RBI apiece.
As a team, the Minutemen totaled a season-best three home runs, with O'Brien, Willi and Briggs recording one. O'Brien and Briggs earned their second homer of the year, as Willi marked his first of the season.
In the opening frame, Tirado led off with a single to right field, before stealing second and advancing to third on an error. With one out, Fox hit a ground ball, allowing Tirado to score, giving UMass a 1-0 lead.
After one out, Braden Sullivan was walked and Briggs singled to left field to put runners on first and second in the top of the second. Bonior doubled to left center field, driving Sullivan home to make it a 2-0 game. A two-out, three-run homer from O'Brien pushed the Minutemen ahead 5-0.
Toledo scored three runs in the bottom half of the second with back-to-back doubles to make it a 5-3 contest.
The Rockets tacked on three more runs with a double to right center field to take the lead, 6-5, in the third inning. Toledo added another run in the fourth, before scoring six in the fifth to lead 13-5.
Massachusetts put up a run in the sixth, as Bonior stole home, making it a 13-6 contest. The Minutemen tacked on another in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to score Tommy Hennessey with Toledo still leading 13-7.
Toledo had another three-run frame to extend its lead to 16-9 in the bottom of the seventh.
With Fox on first, Willi homered to left center field to tally two more runs for UMass in the eighth, as the Rockets held a 16-9 lead.
In the ninth, Briggs registered his second home run of the season and career to make it a 16-10 game. Fox had an RBI single to close the gap to five runs at 16-11.
Justin Masteralexis (0-1) took the loss for Massachusetts after pitching 2.2 innings with five hits, six runs, four walks and two strikeouts in the outing.
Ryan Hughes received the win for Toledo, giving up two hits, no runs, two walks and striking out two in 2.1 innings of work.
UMass prepares for a home contest against Holy Cross on Tuesday, March 10, at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ from Earl Lorden Field.
