Minutewomen Roll Past LIU, 18-2

February 21, 2026 | Women's Lacrosse

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team scored early and often on its way to a dominant 18-2 win over defending NEC Champion LIU on Saturday afternoon. Dylan Lyons led the offense by setting career highs for goals (5), assists (2) and points (7), while Bayley Duffy stopped 10-of-12 shots sent her way in goal.

"Really proud of the team's connectivity all over the field," said head coach Janna Drummond. "They were committed to the systems and each other on both ends. Selfless play and UMass way!"

Along with Lyons' career day, Kassidy Morris had three goals and five points, marking her third hat trick in four games this season. Ava Connaughton and Norah Prizzi each had two goals and an assist. Katie Onderdonk scored twice, Lil Hancock dished two assists and Caitlyn Naughton and Brigid Manning recorded a goal and assist apiece.

Defensively, Marisa Gatz had a game-high three caused turnovers, while collecting two groundballs. Cate Marshall led the MInutewomen with five draw controls.

After more than nine minutes without a goal, Naughton opened the scoring at the 5:55 mark. Morris scored just 37 seconds later for a 2-0 lead, as the Minutewomen led 4-0 after the first quarter.

LIU opened the second-quarter scoring at 13:11, but UMass responded with the next three, the middle of which was a sensational behind-the-back goal from Connaughton, as the Minutewomen led 7-1 after 30 minutes of play. The Sharks again opened the third quarter with a goal to pull within 7-2, but UMass reeled off 11 unanswered goals to take an 18-2 lead at the final horn. Lyons had a stretch of two straight goals and three of the MInutewomen's five, all coming in the third quarter. Each of her seven points came in the first three quarters.

Late in the fourth, Prizzi got on the scoreboard for the first time this season, netting back-to-back goals while also dishing an assist, on the way to the 18-2 final.

Final shots were 32-21 in favor of UMass while the Minutewomen held a 19-11 edge in groundballs and 12-10 advantage in draw controls. The Minutewomen were a perfect 4-of-4 on free-position shots.

UMass returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to UMass Lowell to face the River Hawks at 5 p.m.
