Minutewomen Claim Definitive Victory Over Richmond, 19-10

AMHERST, MASS. -- Massachusetts women's lacrosse (9-3, 7-0 A-10) remained unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play, claiming a definitive 19-10 win over Richmond (7-6, 5-2) on Saturday afternoon at Garber Field. Massachusetts has now scored 15 or more goals in nine of its last ten games dating back to Wednesday, February 19. 
  The Minutewomen went down 4-2 in the first quarter, but opened the second quarter on a 4-0 scoring run to claim a lead they would never relinquish. Massachusetts owned the offensive zone, holding an overwhelming advantage in shots (41-22), shots on goal (30-15) and draw controls (17-12).  
 
Ava Connaughton paced the Minutewomen on offense, totaling six points on three goals and three assists.  Connaughton has now recorded three assists in five games this season, matching her career high. 
  Kassidy Morris continued to be a force in attack, scoring goals on 12 total shots. The performance marked nine consecutive games with four or more goals for the Washago, Ontario native. 
  Overall, four different Minutewomen recorded a hat trick on the day as Connaughton (3), Lil Hancock (3), Morris (5), Rodriguez-Shaw (3) each recorded three or more goals. 
 
Jordan Dean once again put together all-around performance recording nine draw controls, five ground balls and a caused turnover. 
 
The Spiders were led by Grace Muldoon who tallied a hat trick on the afternoon. 

Breaking Down The Action
  • The Minutewomen opened the scoring as Lauren Tolve found net exactly one minute into the first quarter. 
  • Richmond responded with a 3-0 run capped by a tally from Alexis Morton with 6:55 remaining in the first quarter. 
  • Kassidy Morris halted the Spiders' momentum with her first goal of the game, making it 3-2 with 6:28 on the clock. 
  • The Spiders ended the first quarter with a woman-down goal from Grace Muldoon, Richmond up 4-2. 
  • A woman-up goal from Tessa Shields sparked a 4-0 run for the Minutewomen, creating 6-4 advantage with 8:48 to play in the first half. 
  • Bridget Lonsinger got a goal back for Richmond, the score 6-5 Massachusetts with just over six minutes to go in the quarter. 
  • Ava Connaughton capped a 3-0 Minutewomen run, beating the halftime buzzer with one second on the clock to send both teams into the break with the score 9-5. 
  • Richmond collected the first goal of the third quarter, as Juliana Stanley cut the Massachusetts lead back to 9-6. 
  • A pair of woman-up goals from Morris extended the Minutewoman advantage back to 11-6 with 4:24 left in the quarter. 
  • Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw made it four goals unanswered for Massachusetts, the Minutewoman leading 13-6. 
  • Stanley scored her second goal of the period, the score 13-7 Minutwomen through 45 minutes of action. 
  • A trio of goals from Rodriguez-Shaw, Shields and Lil Hancock to begin the fourth quarter iced the action, extending the Massachusetts lead to 16-7 with 11:21 to play. 
  • Connaughton fired in a free position goal to create a double-digit Massachusetts advantage, 18-8. 
  • Rodriguez-Shaw found net for the game's final goal, the final whistle sounding for a 19-10 Minutewomen win.

  • 4: Four different Minutewomen recorded a hat-trick in the matchup. 
  • 8: Connaughton recorded her eighth multi-goal game of the season. 
  • 9: Rodriguez-Shaw recorded her ninth multi-goal game of the season.

  • Saturday's matchup marked the 37th meeting between the two programs with Massachusetts holding a 25-12 record all-time in the series. 
  • The two programs split a pair of matchups a season ago with the Minutewomen claiming a 13-12 victory in Richmond during the regular season. 
  • Massachusetts has won 52 consecutive A-10 regular season matchups, last falling 17-16 in overtime to VCU on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Cary Street Field.
