Shields and Shunney Receive UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week Honors

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse senior Tessa Shields and sophomore women's track and field athlete Rylee Shunney received UMassFive Student-Athletes of the Week honors, as announced Tuesday. The duo was honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, April 16 in the Berkshire Room of the Berkshire Dining Commons.
Shields paced the Minutewomen offensively in their dominant win against A-10 opponent Davidson, contributing eight points on four goals and four assists in the 17-7 win. Shields added three ground balls and three caused turnovers to help women's lacrosse record their eighth conference win this season and 53rd consecutive in regular-season play.
During the Julie LaFreniere Commonwealth Invitational on Sunday, Shunney took home gold in the 5K, finishing in 16:42.09, with her time being the third-fastest in program history. Shunney also placed third in the 1500m with a time of 4:34.76.
