March 22, 2025 | Baseball

Jack Beverly recorded a grand slam on the afternoon.

BRONX, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts baseball fell to Fordham, 10-9, on Saturday afternoon at Houlihan Park. UMass dropped to at  6-10-1 overall on the season and 1-4 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while Fordham moved to 10-13 on the yar and 4-1 in league action.

Anthony Tirado and Braden Sullivan tallied two hits each, followed by five Minutemen with one apiece, including a grand slam from Jack Beverly. Sullivan and Carter Hanson led the way with two runs each, while Beverly totaled four RBI with five other players contributing one RBI each.

After two scoreless innings, a bases loaded walk scored Ryan Kolben to give UMass the first run of the day. A sacrifice fly from Sullivan helped Reece McCarthy across the plate to give Massachusetts a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. The Rams took a run back in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit in half.

The Minutemen plated another run in the fourth with an unearned run from Jared Muñoz on a fielder's choice to pull UMass ahead 3-1. Fordham, then, tied the game up at three apiece with a two-run double in the fifth.

Matt Travisano led off the top of the seventh with a double to right field, followed by Sullivan with a single to left field. Hanson was walked to load up the bases, before Beverly recorded a grand slam, marking his fourth home run of the year, to give UMass a 7-3 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Fordham answered with a three-run homer to make it a close 7-6 contest.

UMass pushed two more runs across in the top of the ninth to lead, 9-6. The Rams came within one at 9-8 with a run scored on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, but walked off with a two-run double to win 10-9 in the final inning.

Adam Merritt (0-2) took the loss for Massachusetts, going 1.2 innings with four runs with two hits, four walks and two strikeouts. Koen Smith (1-1) had the win for Fordham, tossing one complete inning with two runs on one hit, two walks and no strikeouts.
