Massachusetts Baseball Falls Short To Coppin State, 9-6

Jack Beverly tallied a team-leading three hits, followed by Braden Sullivan and Ryan Kolben with two apiece. Five other Minutemen had a hit, including Anthony Tirado with his first collegiate home run. Kolben and Anthoyn tirado led the way with two runs each, with Sullivan and Carter Hanson adding one apiece. Hanson batted in two runs, as Sullivan, Kolben and Tirado total an RBI.
Coppin State scored first in the opening frame. With the bases loaded, the batter was hit by a pitch, advancing the Eagles to make it a 1-0 game. A grand slam pulled CSU ahead 5-0.
In the top of the third, Braden Sullivan reached first on a throwing error by the shortstop, before advancing to second. Ryan Kolben hit a single to left field, driving in Sullivan to score the first run of the day for the Minutemen. After a singled down the third base line from Jack Beverly, Carter Hanson singled to right field as Kolben touched home plate to make it a 5-2 contest.
CSU added another run in the bottom half of the third with a RBI double to right field to lead 6-2. Sullivan registered a double in the fourth inning to score Anthony Tirado, after Tirado stole second and advanced to third on fly out, cutting the deficit in half, 6-3.
The fifth saw Hanson reach first on a fielder's choice, before heading to second on a throwing error by the pitcher. Jared Muñoz singled to the shortstop with Hanson on his way to third. Hanson continued to advance home on the play with a throwing error by the shortstop to make it a 6-4 game, as the Eagles led. During the bottom of the frame, the Eagles put tacked on another run on an RBI single.
Coppin State scored two more runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 9-4.
Kolben led off the top of the seventh with a double down the left field line, before Beverly singled to center field. A sacrifice fly from Hanson helped Kolben cross the dish to get back within four runs at 9-5. The Minutemen added another run in the eighth as Tirado recorded his first collegiate home run to make it a 9-6 contest.
UMass was unable to get the bats going in the final inning, as the Eagles went on to win 9-6.
Robbie O'Connor. Started on the mound, going three complete innings with six runs on five hits, a walk and a career-best six strikeouts to receive the loss. Reagan Rivera had the win for Coppin State, allowing five runs on 10 hits, two walks and nine strikeouts in six complete innings pitched. Justin Ritz earned the save after giving up one run on two hits, walking one and striking out one in three innings tossed.
