Massachusetts Drops Season Opener To Dartmouth, 12-10

AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts (0-1) dropped a tight 12-10 matchup to Dartmouth (1-0) on Saturday at Garber Field.  
 
The Minutewomen pulled within one goal midway through the fourth quarter thanks to a stretch of five unanswered goals across five minutes of play. The comeback bid however, would fall just short as Dartmouth's Catherine Erb netted a dagger with just over three minutes left in regulation. 
 
Attacker Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw recorded a team-high five points, scoring four goals and adding an assist. The performance marks the second time she has scored 4-plus goals in a Minutewomen uniform.  
 
Midfielder Lauren Tolve scored a career-high three goals, including two consecutive tallies in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. Attacker Kassidy Morris added a goal and two assists on a game-high 10 shots.  
 
The Big Green were led by Erb and Boo DeWitt who each recorded three goals on the afternoon. 
  
Breaking Down The Action 
  • Boo DeWitt capped a stretch of three unanswered goals for Dartmouth to begin the game, claiming a 3-0 lead with 9:00 minutes to go in the first quarter. 
  • Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw got the Minutewomen on the board, making the score 3-1 with 6:56 left in the opening quarter. 
  • Lauren Tolve responded to a goal from Dartmouth's Catherine Erb with her first tally of the season, ending the first quarter with the score 4-2 Big Green. 
  • Dartmouth tallied the first two goals of the second quarter, Erb scoring her second to create a 6-2 Big Green advantage. 
  • Tessa Shields cut into the deficit, netting an unassisted goal for Massachusetts' third of the day. 
  • Fiona O'Keefe extended the Dartmouth lead, making it 8-3 at the half. 
  • Rodriguez-Shaw got the Minutewomen back on the board midway through the third, the score 9-4 in favor of the Big Green. 
  • Kassidy Morris and Rodriguez-Shaw ended the third quarter with a pair of goals, cutting into the deficit to 11-7 with 15 minutes to play. 
  • Lauren Tolve and Rodriguez-Shaw made it five unanswered for the Minutewomen, cutting the Dartmouth led to one goal, 11-10 with 11:48 to play. 
  • Dartmouth iced the game with a goal from Erb, securing a 12-10 win.
